Observations of the world and human behavior.

A Way to Make Kids Share Fairly →

Make one of the kids be in charge of dividing whatever is going to be shared. He/she shuld then be the last too choose whatever has been divided. Because he/she will be the last to choose, he/she will ensure to divide everything as evenly as possible!

About Older Luxury Cars →

If someone drives a luxury brand car such as a Mercedez, BMW, Audi, etc. even if it’s an old car, they think it’ll make people think theyr’e driving an expensive car. Perhaps to the younger crowd this may work on, but definitely not to the older crowd. So don’t buy an old luxury car just for the sake of impressing people. Luxury cars actually lose values even faster than non-luxury cars. So if it’s a 5 year old BMW, then it’s not worth much more than a Honda, sorry. Furthermore, you’ll be stuck paying high maintenance fees for nothing.

About Taking Photos →

It’s about composition, making the shot look interesting. After effects like filters can only add to it, but shouldn’t be the main thing. With photos lighting is everything, well second to composition. Other things to consider is keeping edges straight or aligned to the horizon.

Anyone Can Publish Now →

We are now in an age where anyone can publish a book, music, and even podcasts. It’s pretty cheap, you don’t even have to be that good.

Car Battery Keeps Dying →

Car wont start. Maybe the battery light turns on. Try getting it jump started. Then drive around for a few miles. If it dies again, then it’s probably your battery (you can take it to an autozone to get it checked if it’s good), or your alternator. An alternator recharges your battery while you drive, if it’s bad it wont be able to do that.

CNN and Fox News →

Democrats watch CNN and Republicans watch Fox News. The bias is apparent if you watch them long enough. Basically this leads to echo chambers, where you hear and read about what you agree with only.

Convert Mexican Pesos to US Dollars in Your Head →

This is an approximation as the peso to dollar rate constantly fluctuates, but over the past few years it’s been close to 20 pesos to a 1 US dollar. If we assume that rate is fixed, we can get a good rough estimate by doing it in our head. You can first round up if needed to the nearest tenth. Next, eliminate the last digit (remembe with division right-most 0’s can eliminate each other). And lastly divide by 2 (tens value). That’s it.

Examples:

$230 pesos. No need to round. Eliminate last digit, $230. Now we have $23. Divide by 2. $23/2 = ~$11 USD. So $230 pesos is approximately $11 US dollars.

$19,000 pesos. No need to round. Eliminate last digit, $19,000. Now we have $1,900. Divide by 2. $1,900/2 = ~$950 USD. So $19,000 pesos is approximately $950 US dollars.

Of course you can just use Google “230 mexican pesos to us dollars” to get an exact conversion, but the above works when you just want to know an approximation quickly.

To go from US dollar to Mexican, you do the opposite. Multiply by 2 then add a 0 to that. Again, this is an approximation technique as the peso to dollar conversion fluctuates.

Don't Dread, That Too Shall Pass →

Sometimes we stress about something that is coming up or has occurred, just know that time will fade this eventually. Think about the times you had to give a presentation in school and were feeling nervous, it passed just fine didn’t it? It’s now in the past.

Don't Just Save, but Invest if You Can →

Saving money is good, but won’t get you too far. Money on its own loses value from inflation. Smart investing will make a difference.

DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) Cameras →

Cameras that give you full control, as oppose to point-and-shoot. Three main parts: shutter speed (how fast the shutter closesa and re-opens), ISO (how sensative the sensor is to light), and aperture (how big the opening in lense is). You must master all these three to start taking good photos. You will have to make trade-offs between them.

Finding Addresses →

Odd addresses are on one side and even addresses will be on opposite side.

Focus on One Thing and Do It Well →

When you focus on one thing you will get good at it. This applies to business too. Think of In-n-Out, their menu is pretty small and quite good.

Highways and Freeways Follow a Pattern →

If it’s an odd number then it means it goes north to south. If it’s even then it means it goes from west to east. If it’s a three digit number, it might be a loop.

How to Become Rich →

Find a problem that many people have and solve it.

How to Make Sure You Actually Like Something →

If You’re Not Sure if You Like Something Ask Yourself if You Would Do It Again

Movies: would I watch it again? Restaurant: would I eat here again? Book: would I read it again? X: would I [insert verb here] again?

If You're Not Paying for Something Then You Are the Product →

Examples are Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat. You don’t really pay to use them. Which means you are the product. They sell your data to advertisers.

Less Writing Is Better →

In college you have to meet a minumum word count for papers you write. In the real world word, writing less is better. Get to the point, remove the superfluous content. Nobody wants to read 5 paragraphs when it could be said in one sentence or two.

Love Attraction →

Men are mostly attracted to appearance, women are mostly attracted to behavior. There are exceptions.

Meme Pages on Instagram Are Businesses →

They are “influencers” they make money by posting for those who are willing to pay. You’ll see them advertising “flash sales” which are mostly certain niche products being sold by a drop shipper. What’s a drop shipper? Someone who doesn’t actually hold inventory, but promotes a product, marks it up significant for profit, and orders on your behalf without you even knowing. The products can come from any online stores such as Alibab, Ali Express, Home Depot, Walmart.com, etc. Here’s an example, someone sets up an online store using Shopify.com store front and lists several watches they don’t actually have. Maybe on Walmart.com the watches cost $10, so they’ll list them at $40 + free shipping (free shipping is part of the technique). Now they just have to advertise it on Facebook and Instagram meme pages. Some people might like the watches and buy them for $40 through the drop shippers Shopify store. Now the dropshipper will personally use their credit card and order the watch from Walmart.com and use the shipping address of whoever bought it. Basically they’re a middle man.

Never Spend a Lot of Money When Starting a Hobby →

People think that buying the best and expensive tools for a hobby will inherently make them good at it. This is farther from the truth and nothing can beat practice. If you’re trying to be a good photographer, a cheap camera or even your phone is good enough to practice. If you’re trying to learn to play a guitar, buying the most expensive guitar will not help, a $100 guitar will suffice. Buying the best markers will not make you an artist over night. And so forth.

Open to Intepretation →

I’ve come realized that the Bible, Zodiacs, and U.S. Constitution are mostly open to intepretation. With the Constitution we have the “originalist” and the “living document” corners, but even between them is open intepretation.

People Are Most Likely to Leave Reviews if They're Angry →

Sure, there are people who leave a lot of positive reviews, but most people don’t like to leave reviews. However, when someone is really upset at a product or business then all of a suddent they’ll want to leave a review.

People Buy Followers on Instagram Don't Do That →

I don’t know why. These people are always seeking validation. You can usually tell if they have thousands of followers, yet their posts get only 50 likes. This is what they call the engagement ratio. In addition, Instagram will penalize you by not trending your posts.

Quick Read This One, Deleting It in Next 20 Seconds →

Ok I am not going to delete it, but maybe it got you a little nervous and made you want to act on it quickly. Limited time only, limited quantities, free shipping only today; you get the point. Those are terms used by stores or in ads to build up urgency and scarcity. It’s just a tactic, they’ll be onsale again, don’t worry. It’s part of persuasion being used in marketing to create “scarcity”, see.

Subtle Ways People Flex →

Showing off the logo of the steering wheel in the background of a photo post on social media, especially if it’s a luxury brand such as Mercedez, Audi, or BMW. For example you’ll see people post a picture of their drink, tea, coffee, or new set of nails in the foreground with the luxry car logo in the background.

Talking About Religion or Politics Can Cause Tension and Make People Uncomfortable →

Some people are just too passionate about it and can’t agree to disagree. Don’t do it unless you know what you’re doing or want to potentially alienate people.

The Wealthy Don't Try to Impress People →

The poor always seem to want appear rich so they opt for expensive brands that they really can’t afford and shouldn’t be buying in the first place. The rich don’t care. When have you seen Mark Zuckerberg or Bill Gates flashing Gucci belts? This is more evident as I get older.

There Are Many Einsteins in the World Who Never Reached Their Potential →

Not everyone gets a chance at education or having a mentor. There are many bright people in underserved communities that never even had the chance to tap into their potential. What if Albert Einstein had been born in a remote village?

Use Google Maps Just in Case →

Always use Google Maps when you have to be somewhere at a certain time even if you know the way. Google Maps detects car accidents or road closures so you can avoid being stuck.

Work Smart Not Hard →

One of the best advice I was given as a teenager. Do things that will get things done with the least amount effort, this doesn’t mean do things sloppy, but think of ways you’ll be able to complete a task efficiently and without breaking your back. Example, why carry bricks from one place to another when you can use a wheelbarrow?

Almost anything you want to learn you can do so by watching YouTube videos or reading about it online. There are also several resources for vairous subjects at your diposal. Want to learn a new language? There’s YouTube, Duolingo, and infinite amount of resources online. Trying to learn how to lay tile on your kitchen, it’s definitely on YouTube. Same goes for fixing your car or replacing a car part. You want to learn how to program? Again there’s YouTube and Coursera.

You Got Time to Become a Millionaire →

If you’re getting past your twenties and aren’t a millionaire yet, don’t worry, you still got time. There several millionaires now who didn’t become millionares until past their 20’s. Notable examples: Jeff Bezos (Amazon), Stan Lee, Sam Walton (Walmart), and Martha Stewart.
